Legality & Safety

This is NOT illegal. Regular underwear does not constitute indecent exposure. This event is taking place in cities all over the world and has been for years, even in Boston. There may be a minor MBTA police presence there, as there has been every year. The MBTA and MBTA-Police have been very supportive of this annual "happening". They are here for your protection. If a

stranger harasses you (unlikely as you'll always be with a group), do not hesitate to notify an officer immediately. Stay with your group; riding around town in your underwear by yourself (especially if you're female) isn't the safest thing to do. That said, if you expose "certain parts" of your body or wear a thong or something see-through, the police won't be on your side anymore and neither will we. Have fun, but be safe and respectful. If you wanna wear something naughty... wait till you get back home.

Proper Attire

Dress warmly! If you hadn't noticed, it's winter. Wear everything you normally would (including pants); you wont be taking off your pants till you're on the train. Ensure your shoes are easy to slip off and on so you have time to de-pants and re-shoe between stops. Bring a bag/backpack/briefcase/tophat/etc to store your pants in during the ride. We ask that you wear two (or even 3) pairs of underwear. This is for two reasons:

  1. Prevent "wardobe malfunctions".
  2. It's FRICKIN COLD! It will make a huge difference. Your calves can handle the cold a whole lot better than your other bits.

Upon Arrival

We will be meeting at Alewife (last stop on Red Line in Cambridge direction) and starting at 2pm, Sunday January 9th. When you arrive, look for the people with the BostonSOS umbrellas- they will be easy to spot. Register with one of them to be assigned to a group and for further instructions. The earlier you arrive the earlier the train you will be assigned to and the faster you can get to the bar!

If you have an account on the BostonSOS website, be sure to give them the email address associated with your account. This will allow them to mark that you attended the event and give you props and points and badges and maybe some other cool secret stuff that I can't tell you about yet. If you don't have an account, make one here or just login with Facebook and use your Facebook email address at Registration. It's free to register and you'll be able to participate in other cool, free, offbeat happenings too.

Afterward

If you're 21 years of age or older, you can join us for the Pants Off Dance Off after-party at McGreevy's! You can actually check your pants and bag and coat at the door and throw back a few pints with your new pantless friends. It's going to be a blast, so if you're of the appropriate age, you absolutely must swing by.

If you're under 21 or are averse to drinking or bars in general, you're not completely out of luck. Typically, after the event, a lot of people will continue to be pantless and make their own spontaneous plans. You could try pantless bowling. Or perhaps pantless roller skating is more your style? Of course, you could always go shopping for some crazy cheap pants at The Garment District. You'd be amazed at what you can get away with if you have enough people doing it.
